If you are using the VaultCONNECT interface in conjunction with Xythos Drive and the file is an editable document and the application software is installed on the local pc, you should be able to open the file by clicking on the file. Using the xythos drive interface, edit the file, and save it back to the vault. If you are not using the Xythos drive client, you must open the file, save it locally, and then proceed with your edits. For more information about opening and editing your files, see File Management.
How do I share a file with someone else?In order for someone else to use your file, they must have access to that file. There are several ways in which someone else can be granted access rights on your file. The appropriate method to use for granting such permission depends on what type of user that other person is.
- If the person you wish to use your file is another VaultCONNECT user, you may grant specific permissions to that person through the file's Sharing permissions. For step-by-step instructions, see Sharing Files.
- If the person you wish to use your file is not a VaultCONNECT user, you may issue that person a ticket for the specific file. For step-by-step instructions, see Tickets.
You can find a file using either the Basic Search or the Advanced Search. Basic Search offers you the possibility of searching for a file based on its name only. The Advanced Search offers you the possibility of searching for a file based on its name and any of the file's properties. For more information, see Basic Search and Advanced Search.
Is there a way for me to find out every time someone edits a certain file?If your administrator has turned this feature on, you can be notified when a file has been edited by using Subscriptions. Subscriptions give users the ability to request notification via email when files or directories, to which that user has at least read access, are viewed or changed. To set up a new subscription, see Managing Subscriptions.
For more advanced instruction on managing your files and directories, choose from the left Help menu. The menu is categorized by the interface's layout.
